About the artist

Hilton studied at the Slade School of Art, London, between 1929 and 1931 and later at the Academie Ranson in Paris. He became a leading figure of British Abstract painting. In 1965 he settled in St. Ives after visiting Patrick Heron. His work since the war has been mainly associated with the Cornish School, maintaining a balance between the figurative and the abstract.
