Kettle’s Yard Community Panel

Kettle’s Yard has been a valuable asset to the local community since opening its doors in 1957 with a practice of delivering inspiring and creative projects and programmes ever since. This has increased significantly over the past ten years forging a dynamic partnership with our neighbouring communities in North Cambridge, establishing close relationships with organisations and individuals.

We are inviting our local community to join our new Community Panel. We welcome interest from anyone living or working in Cambridge. We want the voices, ideas and opinions of Cambridge communities to shape Kettle’s Yard.

We will be hosting ‘getting to know us’ sessions at the following times: Thursday 7 September, 11.30am – 12.30pm and 6 – 7pm, Saturday 16 September, 1 – 3.30pm.

Open House

Open House is a creative collaboration between Kettle’s Yard and communities in North Cambridge. From 2015 to 2021, the local community have selected and welcomed the Open House Artist in Residence.

Following the outcome of research undertaken by the University of Leicester Research Centre for Museums and Galleries into the impact of Open House, we are currently exploring the next steps of creative collaboration with our communities in North Cambridge.

Your Kettle’s Yard Community Days

Come along and celebrate the creativity of our local community in North Cambridge. Our new programme of Community Days are devised in collaboration with our North Cambridge community partners and artists.

The Kettlers

Artist Lucy Steggals has been collaborating with a self-selected group of North Cambridge residents to creatively explore culture in Cambridge and devise surprises and activities for visitors at Kettle’s Yard Community Days. They described themselves as follows:

The Kettlers are a group of people who come together bi weekly either at Kettle’s Yard or in different locations across Cambridge to share a cuppa poured from a double spouted Kettle. We grapple, stretch, tinker, reflect, enquire, repair, experiment and talk (a lot). We create #Ooh0 surprises for ourselves, friends, neighbours and guests. That’s it (sort of).

Livewire

Livewire offers supported creative and cultural sessions for youth groups and organisations through partnership with Kettle’s Yard Community programme. Discover Kettle’s Yard’s collections and exhibitions, take part in artist-led workshops, achieve Arts Award qualifications, have fun and try something new.

Livewire has worked with young people through partnership with organisations such as Cambridgeshire County Council Youth Services, Cambridge City Council ChYpPs team, Romsey Mill, Centre 33 and many more.

Kettle’s Yard, On Your Doorstep

Kettle’s Yard Community programme often partners with community groups on special, one-off projects which support local ambition and our long-term creative partnership with our neighbours in North Cambridge.

We can also offer guidance and advice for local communities looking to develop their own creative project on funding, finding and working with artists and signposting to arts organisations and creative resources (such as workshop space, kilns for hire etc) in the city.

Your Kettle’s Yard at Holiday Lunches

Kettle’s Yard has a long-term partnership with Cambridge City Council’s Holiday Lunch programme, supporting families who find the extra expense of meals in the school holidays, challenging.

Kettle’s Yard provide fun, free and creative activities for local families led by our team of Artist Facilitators and inspired by the House and exhibitions. We are regularly at the Church of the Good Shepherd Holiday Lunches in Arbury and pop up at Holiday Lunches at Ross Street, Abbey, Queen Edith’s and at the Meadows Community Centre.

Your Kettle’s Yard, Your Way

Your Kettle’s Yard, Your Way enables people experiencing long-term physical or mental health conditions or who are neurodivergent, to engage with Kettle’s Yard’s exhibition programme and House through supportive and creative activity programmes.

Currently, Kettle’s Yard is partnering with Cambridgeshire Older People’s Enterprise (COPE) hosting weekly telephone art discussion groups for people with low vision or blindness and has an established relationship with Cambridge Community Arts, improving health and wellbeing through creativity.

Community Venue Hire

We are able to offer free, one-off venue hire to Cambridge-based community groups who receive a Cambridge City Council Community grant of less than £5,000 or are members of Cambridge Community and Voluntary Services (CCVS).

This is available on weekdays, during office hours in either the Ede Room or Clore Learning Studio as available.
