Background

Kettle’s Yard’s development plans began under the directorship of Michael Harrison. In 2011 we were awarded £2.32m by the Heritage Lottery Fund to create a much-needed Education Wing. In the same year, Andrew Nairne joined Kettle’s Yard as the new Director. During 2012 we had to reschedule the building work due to technical difficulties. In this period we looked again at our options and decided that we could make further significant improvements to Kettle’s Yard – and that it would make sense to undertake a single, holistic scheme. A larger scheme would encompass remodelling the existing gallery spaces and improving services for visitors.

The project transformed our work with children, young people and community groups, allows us to curate exhibitions with major artists from around the world, display 20th and 21st century art in the best conditions, and have the facilities to enable even more people to enjoy Kettle’s Yard.
