About the artist
Pearce was born in St. Ives, Cornwall. Born with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria (PKU), Pearce attended the local special needs school during the 1940s and 50s, where he began drawing and painting with encouragement from his mother and other St. Ives artists. He later attended the St. Ives School of Painting from 1953-57. Pearce is known for his depictions of his hometown and its surroundings, capturing the intricate detail of buildings and ships using heavy outlines and areas of flat, bright colour.
