“This House is an artwork… there’s no stone left unturned” Anthea Hamilton

On 25 November fashion designer Jonathan Anderson and artist Anthea Hamilton joined design journalist, and Friends of Kettle’s Yard events committee member, Aimee Farrell for an evening of conversation in the Kettle’s Yard House.

You can listen to a recording of the event here.

Their conversation explored everything from Hamilton’s passion for pumpkins, to Anderson’s on-going connection to the Kettle’s Yard House and gallery, where his eponymous brand, JW Anderson, held a fashion presentation in 2016. An avid collector of art and ceramics, on first visiting the house, he said, “I was completely obsessed to the point that when I had to fix up my house, I have this floor in my kitchen, I have this wall texture.”

Together, Anderson and Hamilton discussed their own fruitful and long lasting collaboration – he designed the costumes for her 2018 Tate Britain show, The Squash, and her art inhabits LOEWE catwalks, stores and advertising campaigns – shining a light on the fascinating interplay between fashion and art. It was wonderful to see them both back in the Kettle’s Yard House!

This event was part of an ongoing series titled ‘My Kettle’s Yard,’ which examines the inspirational power of Kettle’s Yard beyond fine art, within the spheres of fashion, interior decoration, and design. The talks are part of our Friends of Kettle’s Yard events programme. To find out more about future Friends events and to join the Friends click here.
