The project I’ve been working on has moved on quite a bit. I now have a title for the project –  ‘On Your Doorstep.’ The project takes inspiration from the found objects in the Kettle’s Yard house, including pebbles, shells and furniture as well as some of Jim Ede’s sharing practices, such as tea and toast with visitors in the afternoon. There will be a one day exhibition in a community centre in North Cambridge where some of the Kettle’s Yard collection will be on display alongside some of the found objects and produce from North Cambridge. Last week I was working with a designer to produce a leaflet and poster for the exhibition, which is now at the printers.

Prior to the exhibition, four creative workshops will be run over August and September. This includes a Fruit Picking and Jam Making workshop inspired by Jim’s tea, toast and marmalade sessions. Jim invited visitors to join him for tea and toast as a method of developing his conversations with visitors about art. This workshop also connects with the history of North Cambridge. Chivers Fruit Farm was a huge employer in the Arbury area. They were famous, among other things, for making marmalade. The workshop draws on this connection to jam and offers residents the opportunity to follow forager Jack-Sutton Adam on a fruit picking tour of a local wood. In the afternoon residents will work with frugal cooker Aasia Bibi to make jam from the freshly picked fruit. Some of this jam will be available to taste at the exhibition.

I’m excited to announce the date for the exhibition will be Sunday 27th September 12 til 5pm. Anyone is welcome to come along. There will be tours of the exhibition as well as activities on the day. I’m really enjoying working on this project and the challenge of bringing it all together.
